A ChatGPT rank tracker that counts every answer

ChatGPT rarely lists the same brands in the same order twice. GEOFast asks it your buyers' questions in its own app, signed out, and counts how often it names you, how often you come first and how often it links your site, each with a 90% range, in place of one position from one chat.

Every plan: daily on Growth, Agency and the 14-day trial, weekly on Watch.

How we read it

The ChatGPT app, as a signed-out buyer sees it.

  • The app, not the API

Each answer is captured from the ChatGPT app with no account, through DataForSEO, our data provider. Leading trackers capture the app because the API, asked the same thing, names different brands.

  • From your project's country

The capture is placed in the country your project tracks, one of 15 you can pick, and asks in that country's language. Change the country and the next run asks from there.

  • The whole answer is kept

Its text, the products it offers in the order it offers them, the pages it links and the web searches the app says it ran. A language model reads each one once for who it names, where and how; adding a competitor later re-reads the history.

  • A capture that fails

If the app doesn't answer, that question is marked as failed for ChatGPT in that run and counts in no rate. In our demo runs that was 1 of 191 captures.

Our data

What ChatGPT did with our questions.

We asked ChatGPT's app the demo projects' questions and counted what came back: how it searched, what it linked and how steady its answers were for Plausible.

48%

first-pick rate for Plausible: offered first in 31 of 65 answers, likely 38 to 58%. It was named at all in 80%.

2.7

web searches per answer, on average, in the 179 of 190 answers whose searches the app reported. One answer ran 6.

4.4

pages linked per answer, on average. 7 answers linked none, and answers offered 3.3 products as options on average.

56%

of the sites ChatGPT linked for a question (316 of 568) were linked by none of the five other engines asked it in the same run.

ChatGPT naming Plausible, run by run, with the 90% range
Run 116 of 2176%, likely 59 to 88%
Run 217 of 2277%, likely 60 to 89%
Run 319 of 2286%, likely 70 to 94%

ChatGPT named Plausible in 76% to 86% of a run's answers. The ranges overlap, so the dashboard would call none of those moves a change.

The sites ChatGPT linked in the most answers, both projects together
plausible.io37 answers19%
openai.com24 answers13%
google.com20 answers11%
matomo.org19 answers10%
usefathom.com18 answers9%

190 answers from the ChatGPT app, from GEOFast's two demo projects (four runs for trygeo.fast and three runs for plausible.io, October 6 and 7, 2026), on questions about AI visibility tools and about web analytics, asked in US English. Plausible's rates leave out the questions that name it.

Limits: two fields and two days, and the questions came from GEOFast's own onboarding, so they aren't measured demand. A site counts once per answer.

Rank in ChatGPT

Your rank, counted as first picks.

A rank from one chat is a lottery ticket. Across many answers, how often you come first is a number you can move.

  • Why one position misleads

SparkToro asked ChatGPT one question about West Coast cancer hospitals 71 times. City of Hope was named in 69 of the answers and came first in only 25, and SparkToro put the odds of two lists in the same order at about 1 in 1,000.[1]

  • First-pick rate

The share of ChatGPT's answers that offer you before any other option, with its 90% range, by question, by topic and over time.

  • No average position

An average leaves out every answer that skips you and jumps as the order shuffles. Counting first picks over every answer means a rise is more buyers who saw you on top.

  • Where you appear still counts

The 0 to 100 visibility score weighs each ChatGPT answer by your place: 1 when you're first, 0.8 second or third, 0.6 further down and 0.5 when you're named outside the options.

What you see

ChatGPT on your dashboard.

  • Its own rates, beside the others'

ChatGPT's mention, first-pick and citation rates, each with its range, beside every other engine's, and question by question.

  • The searches it ran

Every ChatGPT answer shows the web searches the app reported running for it, so you see the words your pages need to answer. Searches across a project are on Growth, Agency and the trial. Try the free query fan-out tool

  • The pages it linked

The Sources page lists what ChatGPT cites, and marks pages that name a competitor and not you, on Growth, Agency and the trial.

  • The newest answer to any question

Open a question to read ChatGPT's latest answer as it came, dated, with what it named and linked.

By plan

How often ChatGPT is asked.

  • Watch, $29 a month

ChatGPT gets all 50 prompts, once a week.

  • Growth, $99 a month

ChatGPT gets all 100 prompts, every day.

  • Agency, $249 a month

ChatGPT gets all 1,500 prompts, every day.

  • The 14-day trial

ChatGPT gets all 25 prompts, every day.

From OpenAI

What OpenAI says about ChatGPT's search.

OpenAI documents the crawlers behind ChatGPT. Which search index sits behind it is a separate question, with its own guide.

  • OAI-SearchBot decides if you can appear

OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT's search answers, and that a robots.txt change takes about 24 hours to reach its systems.[2] OAI-SearchBot

  • ChatGPT-User fetches on request

When a person's chat calls for a page, ChatGPT-User fetches it. OpenAI says it isn't used to crawl automatically, and that robots.txt rules may not apply to it.[2] ChatGPT-User

  • GPTBot is for training

Disallowing GPTBot tells OpenAI not to train its models on your pages. OpenAI's page ties search results to OAI-SearchBot, not to it.[2] GPTBot

  • Google, Bing or its own index

OpenAI's pages, the court record and what ChatGPT's searches look like are set side by side in their own guide. Does ChatGPT use Google or Bing?

FAQ

Questions about tracking ChatGPT.

  • Can GEOFast tell me my exact position in ChatGPT?

It shows how often ChatGPT offers you first, and how often it names you at all, each with a 90% range. A single position isn't shown, because the next answer to the same question usually orders the brands differently.

  • Is a ChatGPT rank tracker like an SEO rank tracker?

Only in name. An SEO rank tracker reads one position on a results page that stays put for a while. ChatGPT writes a new answer each time, so a tracker has to ask many times and count.

  • Does GEOFast see ChatGPT the way I do when I'm signed in?

No. It reads the app signed out, with no memory, history or custom instructions: what a new buyer in your project's country sees. Your own chats can differ because ChatGPT uses what it knows about you. Does ChatGPT give everyone the same answer?

  • Which ChatGPT model answers GEOFast's questions?

Whichever model ChatGPT's app gives a signed-out visitor at that moment. GEOFast doesn't choose it, so when OpenAI changes the default, the answers change as they do for buyers.
