Perplexity rank tracking, with the noise marked

Perplexity searches the web for every question and numbers its sources. GEOFast asks it your buyers' questions each week through its API, with its search on, and counts how often the answers name you, put you first and cite your site, each with a 90% range.

Weekly on every plan, the trial included.

How we read it

Perplexity's own model, through its API.

  • Sonar, through the API

Perplexity is asked through its API with its Sonar model, which searches before it answers. Our data provider doesn't capture Perplexity's app, so the dashboard and shared reports say which way each engine was read.

  • Once a week, on every plan

Its answers cost about twice a captured one's, so a project asks Perplexity again only 6.5 days after it last answered. Between those runs, a daily run's figures carry Perplexity's latest answers, so runs compare on the same engines.

  • The same answer for every country

Perplexity's API can take an approximate user location for its search; GEOFast sends none. Its answers come from Perplexity's own index whatever country your project tracks, so they read the same from week to week.[1]

  • A count of searches, not their words

The API reports how many searches Perplexity ran for an answer, and not what it typed. So Perplexity's answers carry their sources but no list of searches.

Our data

What Perplexity did with our questions.

Every Perplexity answer in the demo runs came with sources. We counted how many, whose, and how steady its answers were for Plausible.

15

sources per answer, on average, the most of any engine we ask. None of its 191 answers came back without one.

191

searches, as Perplexity counted them, for 191 answers: one each. What those searches were, it doesn't say.

44%

first-pick rate for Plausible, 29 of 66 answers, likely 34 to 54%. Named at all: 65%, likely 55 to 74%.

2.4

products offered as options per Perplexity answer, on average. Its answers cited plausible.io in 34 of 66.

Perplexity naming Plausible, run by run, with the 90% range
Run 115 of 2268%, likely 51 to 82%
Run 214 of 2264%, likely 46 to 78%
Run 314 of 2264%, likely 46 to 78%

Perplexity named Plausible in 64% to 68% of a run's answers. The ranges overlap, so the dashboard would call none of those moves a change.

191 answers from Perplexity's API with search, from GEOFast's two demo projects (four runs for trygeo.fast and three runs for plausible.io, October 6 and 7, 2026), on questions about AI visibility tools and about web analytics, in US English. Plausible's rates leave out the questions that name it.

Limits: answers through the API can differ from what Perplexity's app shows. The questions came from GEOFast's onboarding, so they aren't measured demand. A site counts once per answer.

How often Perplexity names you, puts you first and cites you, each with its 90% range, beside the engines asked daily.

  • Its long source lists

From Perplexity

What Perplexity says about its answers.

  • Numbered citations

Perplexity says it searches the internet in real time, and that each answer carries numbered citations that link to the original sources.[2]

  • PerplexityBot for its search results

Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot in robots.txt for a site to appear in its search results, and says the bot isn't used to crawl for AI foundation models.[3] PerplexityBot

  • Perplexity-User on a person's question

It may visit a page to answer a question and link it in the reply. Since a person asked, Perplexity says it generally ignores robots.txt rules.[3] Perplexity-User

  • Up to a day to take effect

Each crawler's setting works on its own, and Perplexity says changes can take up to 24 hours to show in its systems.[3]

FAQ

Questions about tracking Perplexity.

  • Why does GEOFast ask Perplexity only once a week?

Its answers cost about twice what a captured ChatGPT or Gemini answer does, and a weekly run keeps every plan's price where it is. The dashboard carries the latest weekly answers into the daily runs, so the engines stay comparable.

  • Are Perplexity's API answers the same as its app's?

Not always. The app lets people pick other models and search modes, which read and sum up pages differently. GEOFast asks the API's Sonar model with search on, the same way every week, and says so on reports.

  • Why can't I see the searches Perplexity ran?

Perplexity's API reports how many searches it made for an answer, not their words. ChatGPT and Claude report theirs, so those show on their answers.

  • Does my project's country change Perplexity's answers?

No. GEOFast sends Perplexity no location, so a project in Germany and one in the United States get answers from the same search. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's answers do follow the country.

Sources

Where each fact comes from.

Each numbered source is the page a fact comes from, most of them the documentation of the company behind Perplexity, read on October 21, 2026. These pages change, so check them before you act.
